The Allpahuayo Research Centre is the field station of the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute inside the reserve. It studies and grows the Amazon's best-known medicinal plants, and its trails are walked with someone who explains what each one is for.
It is the gentlest of the three day trips: less walking, more looking closely. Around the centre lie the varillales, the low white-sand forest that is home to birds and plants found nowhere else in the world.
Itinerary

6:30 – 7:00
Pick-up in Iquitos
- Departure from the meeting point towards the Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve.

8:00 – 8:30
Arrival at the 'Irapay' control post
- Visitors are registered at km 28 of the Iquitos-Nauta road.
- Briefing on the protected area and the rules of conduct.
- Box lunch is handed out and the group transfers to the Allpahuayo Research Centre.

8:30 – 12:30
The Research Centre's trails
- Interpretive walk along the trails of the IIAP centre.
- Trails of Amazonian medicinal plants.
- Watching the endemic and specialised wildlife of the varillal forests.

Lunch at the Research Centre
- End of the walk and return to the centre.
- Regional lunch and free time.

Back to Iquitos
- End of services.
